This Week in Room 33! March 2-6

REMINDER- Please send in memory book ad pictures by Friday! Thanks! :)

Here's what to expect this week in 5th grade:

Science- I am so impressed with the work our students put into their planet project presentations- way to go! We are wrapping up space and beginning our new chapter on forces and motion (chapter 11) this week!

Writing- This week we are analyzing our evidence and explaining our thinking to make our voice more powerful! We are signing, sealing, and delivering our argument letters to Dr. Stryjewski and look forward to hearing her response! We will then work to take our arguments up a notch and bring a critical perspective to our writing.

Math- We are continuing our study of converting units of measurement. We are converting customary units of capacity, displaying measurement data on a line plot, and converting metric units of length, mass, and capacity.

Reading- We are working hard in reading as we tackle reading test taking strategies such as identifying characters' achievements and motivation by extracting important information from biographies, organizing main idea and details with boxes and bullets, and understanding nonfiction passages by paying attention to text features.

Students are turning in their first "Connect Four to Comprehend More" assignment today (Tuesday) and will turn in their next one by Friday.

Social Studies- We are continuing to study explorers of European settlements such as Cabot, Verrazano, Cartier, Champlain, and Hudson. We will also discuss the settlements of Roanoke and Jamestown.
