This Week in Room 33! Jan. 28- Feb. 1

What to expect this week in 5th grade:

Morning Work- Students will be working on DLR in the mornings (grammar/editing sentences). We go over these after lunch. Our DLR quiz will be on Friday. You may want to go over the DLR sheet to help prepare for the quiz.

Math- We are continuing our unit on measurement. Ask your child to sing you the Metric Song! :) The assignment #4 is due on Friday.

Social Studies- We are working on our African American projects in class this week. These were originally due on Wed. but I will be extending the due date to Thursday. This project should be completed in class.

Reading- This week we will continue focusing on determining importance and will use this strategy to help us write summaries. Ask your student what a summary is and if they can summarize their favorite book or even a TV show episode!

The Time for Kids sheet is due on Wed. The cold read "The Underground Railroad" is due on Friday.

Writing- This week we will be choosing our nonfiction topic we will be writing about. We will begin researching our topic.

Six Flags Reading Logs- If you are interested in participating, the Six Flags yellow reading log sheet is due Friday, February 15th. If your student fills this reading log sheet, he/she will receive a free admission ticket!

Have a wonderful week!

Mrs. Schaefer
