This Week in Room 33! Oct. 6-10
Here's what to expect this week in 5th grade:
Science- This week, we are working on Lesson 3 of Chapter 7- What is Weather? Students will be able to describe the factors that determine weather, such as barometric pressure, temperature, winds, water in the atmosphere, and circulation. We are LOVING our science stations as we are engaged in several activities throughout the week including a water cycle game, the layers of the atmosphere project, videos on our online textbook, and close reading with a teacher!
Writing- We are busy working on our 2nd personal narrative piece, using all we have learned about how to write a powerful personal narrative! We are focusing on catching the action or image that produced the emotion in our characters, recognizing how every character plays a role, editing with commas in mind, and beginning to publish! We are so proud of our writers!!!
Math- This week we are continuing our study of division including using division models with larger numbers, distributive property & partial products, dividing 3 and 4 digit dividends & placing the first digit, quotients with zeros, and interpreting the remainder! Keep practicing those basic multiplication facts at home! It makes a WORLD of a difference! :)
Reading- We will be focusing on figurative language (similes, metaphors, personification, alliteration, etc.) and noticing how it makes writing more interesting to read and visualize! We will also continue our study of thinking deeply about characters in our fiction stories. We will think about how paying attention to objects that the characters keep near and dear as well as noticing that different characters can be affected differently by a single event.
Social Studies- We are continuing to discuss and study Native Americans, specifically peoples of the northwest and southwest!
