This Week in Room 33! Oct. 20-24

Here’s what to expect this week in fifth grade:

Science- This week we will be finishing up our work on how clouds form and starting to learn about climate.  We’re in the process of making murals of the different types of clouds.

Writing- After last week’s awesome personal narrative celebration, we will begin a new unit on historical informational (nonfiction) writing!  Our first piece of writing will focus on a Native American tribe of each student’s choosing.

Math- We are coming to the end of our unit on division!  This week we will be dividing greater numbers using two digit divisors and learning problem solving strategies for word problems.  We anticipate the division test to be given during the last week of October.  Students should continue to practice their basic multiplication and division facts at home!

Reading- We are wrapping up our study on how good readers think deeply about characters in order to determine the bigger message or theme. This week will focus on comparing characters from different books to make connections.  Students should be reading at least 20 min. a night with a goal of completing a book about every 1-2 weeks! Thank you for your continued encouragement and support at home!

Social Studies- Students will complete a Native American project on their tribe they have chosen for their writing research report. Click HERE for more details! Students will be building models of their chosen tribes’ living structures (teepee, wigwam, etc.) at home. The due date will be Wed. Nov. 5th.
