This Week in Room 33! Oct. 13-17

Here's what to expect this week in 5th grade:

Science- This week we are continuing to study the layers of the atmosphere, weather instruments meteorologists use, and we will begin discussing how clouds and precipitation form.

Writing- We will be publishing our final personal narratives this week and celebrating our finished pieces!

Math- This week we will be using the problem solving strategy of determining extra or missing information, estimating quotients with 2-digit divisors, using base ten blocks to show division, and dividing by 2 digit divisors. Students should continue to practice those basic multiplication/division facts at home!

Reading- We will continue to discuss how good readers think deeply about characters in order to think deeply about the story as a whole and determine the bigger message or theme. We will work on showing how good readers organize their thoughts to notice patterns and see how our thinking changes as the story evolves. We will begin to discuss how we can compare and contrast between texts. Students should be reading at least 20 min. a night with a goal of completing a book about every 1-2 weeks! Thank you for your continued encouragement and support at home!

Social Studies- We are continuing our study of Native Americans!

*This Friday- Oct. 17- Half day and end of 1st quarter
*Oct. 27 & 19- Conferences
*Oct. 30- Pumpkin Run, Fall Festival, Halloween Parties
