What to expect this week in 5th grade:
Math- We are working on dividing whole numbers this week in math! Ask your student the steps we use in division (hint- Dad, Mom, Sister, Brother, Cousin!) Does your child know their basic multiplication facts? Quiz them at dinner or in the car! It is crucial for students to know their facts as we dive into complicated division problems. Thank you for all your support and work at home!
Science- This week we are discussing air pressure, air mass, fronts, and climate. Students will be given a study guide (glued into their science notebook) for a quiz next Tuesday, Oct. Students can study with their notebooks and can also check out the PowerPoints in the new science page of the blog- HERE!
Reading- We are continuing to study story elements with a focus on theme this week! We started literature circles last week and they are already off to a great start! Students are required to read an assigned amount of pages and respond to their reading using the literature circle sheet that they will use as a bookmark. The sheet is due the day of their literature circle (Wednesdays) and will be used to help their group's discussions.
Writing- We are working on revising our personal narratives in regards to its story structure, bringing out the heart of the story, elaborating on the important parts, and adding scenes from the past and future. We are busy writers making our stories EVEN BETTER!!! Words contracts are due and spelling tests are on Friday, Oct. 25.
